Missing the Dogs

Summer’s almost over; days are getting shorter and the trip is getting closer.

With only a month left till take off it’s as though I can actually feel the time slipping through my fingers. Like sand — it seems like a lot yet it’s really so little. I feel that with each day comes a new thing I will miss. For example, my house, the island, and little things like the sheets on my bed and how during the summer the upstairs and the downstairs are never the same temperature. Though there is one thing — or should I say three things — that from the very beginning have always been on the top of my list. The doggies.

Our dogs: Wasabi (French Bulldog), Mochi (Cavachon = King Charles Cavalier Spaniel + Bishon), and Guinness (Bernese Mt.) will be taken care of by a family friend who will be living at our house for the year.

Although the dogs can be very unruly, words cannot describe how much I’ll miss them. If you haven’t met them and gotten to know them then you wouldn’t know how bad they can get… and well… they can get pretty bad. But you also wouldn’t know how great they can be and how funny, adorable, lovable, and especially loving they are. Sometimes I think they’ll forget about me. One year is seven to them, right? But I know that it doesn’t matter how much time passes and how many miles are between us. It also doesn’t matter that the dogs probably like our family friend more than us because she actually takes them on walks. The thing that matters is that I love them 🙂

So in the end it’s true that I’ll miss them and it’s true that I love them but like my parents say, “Nothing will change. When we get back everybody will still be doing the same thing.”

Hi Yve, I am getting excited for all of you as your departure date approaches. I know you must be very busy with all the last minute things to do and friends to see. I know you will miss your dogs, I did when I was away for months. But it will all be forgotten when you get back and get the biggest, sloppiest welcome from all of them – wear rain gear!!

PS, did you enjoy Modok? I have finally got a copy and have started reading it. What are you planning on reading on the trip?

It’s a great book! I really enjoyed it and I hope you do too 🙂 Read the previous blog post on our family book club – it has the list of books we’ll be reading on the trip!

Hi Yve! They will miss you, too, but the year will go super quickly for them, and all will pick up exactly where you leave off!! Can’t wait to follow your posts along your journey and see your sweet face (live!) in less than 4 months.
